Tuesday (4 – 3 – 2008)

Today we did the creative project in the primary school ‘De Hazelaar’ with children of 6 / 7 years old.

I will give a short overview of the day:

The room was decorated with ropes and animals of the jungle. When the pupils enterred they could hear music out of the jungle. The foreign students did a little drama act. They were acting like animals from the jungle. The pupils had to guess where they were and which animals they played.

The children got to know that they all are changing in animals of the jungle. They got painted in the animal they wanted. The children were motivated to do all the exercices because they had to collect pieces of a puzzle of the witch. If they did an exercice well, they got a piece. The animals of the jungle would get water if the puzzle would be complete.

WARMING UP:
- We made a spiderweb with thread. The children had to throw the thread to eachother and say there names. In this way we got to know all the names of the children in a creative way.
- We did all kinds of exercices about ropes and knots:
--> use the rope at different kind of ways on the music.
--> use the rope in different ways: it is a telephone, it is a gun...
--> make a knop with you own body.
--> make a knop with different bodies.

The children really liked the warming up. They could show their own things what they could do with ropes and knots. I was suprised to see that they were so creative with the ropes and their own body.

PHYSICAL EXPRESSION
The children are walking in a room on some peaceful music. We give them some exercices in between:
- Make yourself as small as possible, because the witch may not see you. This you must do by making a knot in your body.
- The witch wants to capture you. Swing like Tarzan with your rope.
- There are a lot of snakes into the jungle. Your rope is now a snake. How does as snake move? Try it with your rope.

MUSIC AND ART
Groups of 4 children:
- Think of some sounds that animals in the jungle make.
- Give every button a different sound.
- Walk one by one next to the large rope. When you passes a little button, you have to make the sound that fits with that button.

The pupils were very motivated for this exercice after they saw a example. Each group made a nice composition with sounds out of the jungle.

All the children:
We are pretending to stand around a pit. They have to do some exercices around this pit.
- Yell your name one by one into the pit on a special way. We all have to make an echo after each name.
- Make a sound out of the jungle into the pit and use an instrument that is based on ropes, knots and buttons.

With this exercice the children were not very creative. They all said their names in the same way. We better did some exercices before this where they use there voices in different ways.

Groups of 4 children:
- Painting with a special intstument with ropes.

The most children liked this exercice. Some of the pupils thought it was to difficult and rather paint with there hands in staid of with the ropes.
It was not so good that in each group there were two children painting and two children waiting. We better give the waiting students something to do.

All the children:
- making a big piece of art with ropes.
Every child gets one little rope. We put on some peaceful music. We sit into a big circle. Every child has to lay his or her rope in one kind of way in the middle of the circle so we get one piece of art.

I was suprised to see that the children made a really nice piece of art. Almost every child layed his of her rope in a different and special way. The children were very creative during this activity.

DRAMA
Groups of 4 children:
- thinking of an end to the story of the elefant with a knot in its trunc. The children have to play a scene.

PRESENTATION
- the children of the other classes could show what they had done.
- The children of the other classes could see wath we had done.

I think this part did not go very good. We did’nt had the time to prepare something. We only showed two dramascenes of our group. The other children did’nt show anything. I think that was pity. We better let a group do their scene, an other group could show some paintings and ...
